It’s time to bury the lead…

I believe that leadership is a sacrificial practice. Not in a way that praises martyrdom or requires anyone to die on any swords. I believe that leadership requires the sacrifice of ‘self’ – the pride that swells in us and creates an environment where the ‘I ME MY’ monster ravages the people around us and prohibits progress. I believe that the most effective leaders – by the standards of those they lead for and those that they lead – are the ones that value and care for people, those that lead with humility and are willing to fail fast, learn faster and value progress over perfection.

My leadership practice is built on this principle. The one that says that people are allowed to be living, breathing, complex human beings. The kind of complex humans that have bad days, make mistakes and have boundaries. In doing so, I get the same grace.

Teams are better when they consist of people that acknowledge and celebrate the humanity in one another.

Like I tell my team, I just want to do good work and treat people well.

It can really be that simple.
